Vaginal discharge during pregnancy is considered normal, however this discharge should be milky white, odourless and non-irritating. A vaginal discharge that is white, yellow or greenish in colour that may have an offensive odour, or that becomes itchy and painful, suggests that an infection is present. Most commonly this is Candida Albicans (a yeast infection also known as thrush). All suspicious discharges should be reported to your midwife or doctor. Acupuncture can assist in ridding the body of excess damp and heat (this is how TCM views infection, and since pregnant women are prone to dampness and heat then candida infections can be a frequent problem) as well as address any underlying imbalances, to assist the body in preventing infections from recurring.
